For MARIN Academy we are looking for a student for the following internship or final thesis:

Harbour & Coastal Swarm Surveillance System

Backround and objectives
In the future small drones will become more and more important for quick and cheap surveillance tasks. Also for the maritime application such applications will required and developed. The technology needed seems to be getting available rapidly: bio inspired propulsion systems with cheap rapid prototyping production in combination with small electronic equipment (sensors & data  transmission). First investigations have shown, that a drone with the size of about 0.5-1 kg should be feasible. In this study a more detailed design is envisaged.

The study will have three task interacting with each other. First is to set up a requirements specification document on such a drone.
Second a literature study will be done on the in-stationary hydrodynamics of a biometric solution with an oscillating tail.
Final task is to design a prototype of a single small drone based upon the set of  defined requirements, taking the results of previous investigations and the literature study into account and identifying critical issues.
